army puttees

Puttees were first adopted by the army as a legging for mounted troops, deviating for the first time from leather boots in February of 1894. It was a huge departure from traditional boot design. The civilian population soon adopted the puttees after the Spanish- American war as their work boot of choice. The Puttees are also used in the trucking industry and motorcycle riding population as a practical solution for combining cleanliness with leg protection after the Spanish-American War.
